ILLINOIS
The Illinois Legislature introduced House Bill 335 on January 30, 2001. The bill is currently pending. It would prohibit racial profiling, require law enforcement agencies to collect data, and would require appropriate counseling and training for officers who routinely stop members of minority groups for violations of vehicle laws as a pretext for investigating other violations of criminal law. Several jurisdictions are collecting data through voluntary efforts and court settlements.
