NEBRASKA
On May 31, 2001, Nebraska passed state legislation prohibiting racial profiling and requiring the Nebraska State Patrol and local law enforcement officers to collect data during every traffic stop, regardless of whether a citation or warning is given. The State Patrol had been collecting data since October, 2000.

Scope of Collection: vehicle stops
Data Collection Dates: January 01, 2002 through December 31, 2004
Data Collected: race, ethnicity, reason for stop / alleged violation, warning given, citation given, arrest made, personal search conducted, search of vehicle conducted
Other Information: Defines and prohibits the practice of racial profiling by the Nebraska State Patrol, the county sheriffs, and all local law enforcement agencies in the state. Reuiqres law enforcement agencies to adopt policies prohibiting racial profiling. Directs the Nebraska Commission on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice, the Superintendent of Law Enforcement and Public Safety, the Attorney General, and the State Court Administrator to create a data collection form or electronic format. The State Patrol and all local law enforcement agencies must submit annual summary reports of the data collected to the Nebraska Commission on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. The Commission may review the data and any allegations of racial profiling “within the limits of its existing appropriations.”
