VIRGINIA
A bill was enacted in April, 2002, to ensure cultural sensitivity by all police officers. A bill is pending in the Virginia General Assembly which would establish uniform collection of traffic stop data for all local and state law enforcement agencies. This data would be maintained in a statewide database established by the State Police. The bill also provides that each agency shall adopt a policy against racial profiling. Several jurisdictions in Virginia are collecting data on traffic stops voluntarily.

Status: Enacted April 04, 2002
