In an executive order in March 2001, Governor McCallum required all law enforcement agencies to ban the use racial profiling. However, he stopped short of requiring the police agencies to collect data. In a report, the Governor requested that the police agencies voluntarily collect data during traffic stops. In September 2001, the Wisconsin Assembly introduced a bill that would require police officers to collect data for all "motor vehicle contact," which failed to pass in March 2002. Several local jurisdictions are voluntarily collecting data.
